Kathy hasn't been back to her family's winegrowing estate for years. Having broken with her father, whose impossible demands have made the entire family suffer, she refuses to attend his 65th birthday party. However, her boss Barbara, a publisher, feels Kathy should go home for this occasion – and take Barbara's husband Silvester with her. She hopes that the best-selling author will overcome his creative block with a stay in the country. And does he ever... Silvester falls in love with the adorable young Kathy and channels his experiences into his new novel. There's no lack of material for his book: in addition to his own romance, there's a wine-adulterating scheme, a forbidden love, the patriarch's icy disapproval of Kathy's "destroying" Silvester's marriage... Barbara's unannounced visit adds fuel to the fire when she tells Kathy that Silvester always needs love affairs to inspire his imagination.
